Personal Training FAQ’s

Who hires a Personal Trainer?

No matter what your age or fitness level, a Trainer can help you to accomplish whatever goals you set your mind to and will ensure your experience is personalized to suit your needs.  People hire trainers for many different reasons, some of which include motivation, coaching, education and for safety purposes.  That’s what makes it personal!  Many of our clients also belong to gyms, but prefer to train with their trainer at home.

How do I get started?

It’s easy!  First, schedule your FREE Consultation. (request form) During the Consultation, the Trainer will determine your starting point and help you to establish specific goals incorporating a specific training & nutrition strategy that fits with your lifestyle.  A package recommendation will then be made to best suit your needs, schedule and finances!

How do training sessions work?

Location

Sessions can take place wherever you feel most comfortable working out, whether it be in the comfort of your home, at your workplace or outdoors for a little fresh air.  Very little equipment and space is required to get a great workout!

Duration & Frequency

Sessions are 60 minutes in length, and may be scheduled in advance or at your own convenience.  You can choose to workout with your Trainer as often or as little as you’d like, but most clients prefer to train two to three times per week for effectiveness.  At the very least, you should get your program updated every six to eight weeks to ensure ongoing progress and maintenance of results.

Prior to the Session

It’s important to warm up 5-10 minutes prior to your session so that you are physically and mentally prepared for the workout.  Make sure to have your training journal, water and any questions you may have regarding previous or upcoming workouts.  Your Trainer will also make pre and post workout meal recommendations to ensure you have sufficient energy to fuel your workout and for post muscle tissue recovery.

First session

Your first training session will set the foundation for success!  Your Trainer will find your starting point by selecting and experimenting with exercises and intensities best suited to your level of fitness and will then build a program customized specifically to your needs.  You will also be educated on proper form, breathing and technique to ensure your safety and success.

During the session

The focus and intensity of each training session will vary depending on your specific needs, goals, strengths and weaknesses.  Each session may include cardio and muscle conditioning, flexibility, nutrition or a combination of all of these and your trainer will strive to make every session educational and fun while building your exercise repertoire.

What kind of nutritional guidance will I receive?

Following a proper nutritional regime is key to your short and long term success!  Your Trainer will educate you on portion control, meal frequency, the balance and types of carbohydrates, proteins and fats best suited to your goals and give you ideas for proper pre and post workout meals.   Nutritional recommendations may also be modified along the way, based on your exercise regime, goals and progressing level of fitness.  Remember, exercise and nutrition go “hand in hand!”

Training Journals

Training journals are included and serve several purposes.  Your Trainer may use the journal to record your program design along with subsequent sessions so that they can monitor changes and  progression with your weights, sets and repetitions.  Your Trainer may also request that you record your own workouts in-between sessions along with a daily food log so they can ensure you’re on the right track.

Fitness Assessments

To find your starting point and benchmark your success along the way, your Trainer may conduct the following at no additional charge; blood pressure and resting heart rate, body composition analysis (measurement of body fat vs. lean muscle mass), body circumferences and BMI (body mass index~ weight & height)

Can’t I just get a program made for me and do it on my own?
You can, but Trainers are educated to build safe and effective programs based on ones individual needs and limitations.  Setting a client up on a program and taking them through the exercises once won’t ensure results or adherence.  Learning to train at the right intensity, and with proper exercise form, breathing and technique is key to training responsibly and setting yourself up for success.   Once your body plateaus, more adjustments will need to be made to your exercise regime to help you to progress and accommodate your evolving fitness level.

What if I dislike my Trainer?

We recognize the importance of the client/trainer relationship and will therefore try to align you with a Trainer best suited to your needs and personality.  It’s important to discuss any questions/concerns you have as they come up to keep the lines of communication open.  If you would prefer to work with another Trainer at any point, we would be happy to accommodate your request.

Does personal training guarantee results?

Assuming realistic goals have been set, following the exercise and nutritional recommendations given to you by your Trainer, will ensure you reach your goals.  Your success is our success!
